So, did you know that Monday is Labor Day and that I don’t have to work? Maybe you should have told me as I had no idea. I mean, I had some vague understanding that Labor Day was coming up soon, but it really didn’t click that I would have the day off of work. Dur and stuff. Well, that’s a nice surprise! Dan will be out of town camping (again, this time with a friend) from Sunday until Tuesday so not only do I have a three-day weekend, I also have the house to myself! Rock! Vegan spaghetti and Photoshop for all!

Yes, I said vegan spaghetti. As of this morning, I am officially a vegan for the next week, and longer if it goes well. No, this wasn’t a spur of the moment plan; I actually came up with the idea yesterday, thank you very much. It’s something that I’ve tossed around in my brain for quite awhile, but never seriously considered. I’ve been a vegetarian for seventeen years so I guess it seems like the next logical step? Maybe? Of course I’m setting a scary precedent for myself. Who knows what hair-brained scheme I will come up with seventeen years from now, just to continue the trend. Beware, Future Jessie.

There are several reasons I’ve been considering doing this, such as I eat horribly unhealthily, even as a vegetarian, and this will force me to pay more attention to the food I’m stuffing into my mouth. Also, I rarely cook, prefering to go out or microwave something. This will make me actually stay home and cook, since it will be easier than going out and trying to figure out what I can and can’t eat. I’m all about easy. Plus, I really like many foods that are considered vegan, so why not?

So far it’s going very well. It’s only been about ten hours since I got up this morning, but still, it’s been a successful ten hours.

Dan and Noah are going camping today and tomorrow in some vaguely near-by state park-type area, which means Party At My Place!!! And by party, I obviously mean me, the cats, spaghetti (ooh, that sounds good!), HGTV and a smattering of Photoshop. Ooh, maybe some Sims! Sounds like a swell time, if you ask me. I’m quite excited.

I’m debating listening to Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince on my iPod. It’s there, all ready to go, but I’m so sleepy today, and most of my co-workers are gone so it’s very quiet in here. And cold. So very cold in here. Half-Blood Prince is kind of depressing, and I just don’t know if that’s what I really should be listening to right now. It will make me moody and I’m already in a pissed-off mood. On the other hand, it is Harry Potter…

Still very little going on in my life, apparently. If my cats could talk (well, if they could speak English, I should say), they would say this:

cat
more animals

Harry Potter it is, then. You’ve been warned.

Just found out that one of my very liberal, very pro-Obama co-workers has to spend most of next week at the Republican National Convention for work (not entirely sure what exactly he has to do there, but better him than me!). He was the first to point out the irony…poor guy. And damn Republican National Convention.

Through a vast and complicated series of events I have procured a silver slinky from an absent co-worker’s desk and it seriously has changed my life. I had no clue that a slinky could keep my attention for such a long time; I have gotten very little work done since the slinky showed up on my desk was stealthily obtained yesterday.

The following will only makes sense to my co-workers. But strangely enough, it would make sense to my co-workers. What a weird bunch.

The slinky was originally on my “twin’s” desk, but since she’s gone, Pablo Husmano, who is currently in town from Logistics West Coast, has been sitting at her desk and playing with the slinky. Loudly. Very loudly. Loudly enough to annoy Fraulein, who sits across the room. So Fraulein has finally had enough, storms over, and steals the slinky, which eventually ends up on my desk. And now I’m loudly and annoyingly playing with it. I think I may be bugging Gopher, but who really cares. She’s a gopher.

Can you tell there’s very little going on in my life right now?

A recent blog entry by Dooce gave me the great idea of creating my own “Top Five” list (think Friends). Of course, five doesn’t evenly fit into the Flickr mosaic maker, so I had to add a few. Sigh, such a tough decision.

My creation, II

  • Milo Ventimiglia
  • Ellen Page (yes, she is my girlcrush and yes she made the list)
  • Johnny Depp
  • Gary Oldman
  • Sean Lennon
  • Norman Reedus
  • Ewan McGregor
  • Justin Long
  • Hok Konishi (So You Think You Can Dance, season 3)

So, what’s you list?

My two-year wedding anniversary is coming up in two-and-a-half months (ok, so it’s still a ways away), so of course we’re already making plans on what to do. What can I say? I’m restless and would really like to go somewhere, and Dan is smart enough to know he should make this happen if he wants any peace in the next two-and-a-half months.

Well, flying is too expensive (at the moment, Dairy Queen is too expensive) and since we live in the middle of nowhere (Thanks, Midwest. You rock at sucking.), anywhere interesting is a good 1,000 miles away. Thus, driving is out of the question.

But! Dan found a really cute inn/brewery in southern Wisconsin called Brewery Creek that’s not too expensive, so we’re staying there for a few days in October. Apparently Mineral Point, WI, (the location of the inn) is one of the oldest towns in Wisconsin and is littered with adorable historic buildings and houses. Plus, well, there’s a brewery at the inn, and the inn owners have a cat, so I’m pretty certain that Dan and I chose the right place. Good find, Dan!

I’ve been listening to Harry Potter at work on my iPod the last few days, and I’ve gotten so much work done! I am the Productivity Queen! All hail me and my amazing productivity-ness!

But, alas, I’ve run out of Harry Potter and music just isn’t filling the void. My productivity has plummeted. I’ve spent a good chunk of today looking out the window and checking to see how expensive plane tickets to France are (Answer: Very Expensive).  Sigh, I’m bored.

On top of that people keep calling me and emailing me, asking me to do things for them. I find this very irritating. Sure, it’s my job and they’re well within their right to request that I help them, but still. Knock it off! Don’t you realize I’m out of Harry Potter? I can’t help you!

ps: I blame all of this on Marcoda. Not only did she give me the audio files, but many, many years ago (and I’m not sure if she remembers this), probably around the time the second or third book was just coming out, she was the one who introduced me to the Harry Potter books. I thought the whole thing was just an annoying fad until this point. So yeah. Vengeance will be had. Possibly in the form of…A DRAGON! (Oh sorry, don’t know how a Scrubs reference got caught in the middle a Harry Potter rant.) (And I’m still waiting for someone to make a Scrubs/Harry Potter crossover movie.) (Although the dragon is relevant to the whole Harry Potter thing, although I wasn’t planning on my revenge being that violent. I was thinking more like a mocha or a sandwich or something.)

My brother Bradley and I always used to always pretend we were the Wonder Twins. He would always become “form of a dragon!” and then I would want to be a dragon too but he said I’d be something made of water so I’d be like, “shape of an ice dragon!” and then he would say I was copying him and he would breathe on me and I would have to melt but it was still so… awesome.” —Elliot Reid in Scrubs

Marcoda had her baby Monday afternoon and wow, and to say this baby boy is perfect is a huge understatement. I’m completely smitten with him and it was very difficult to hand him back after holding him. (Luckily for everyone I don’t think he would have fit in my purse. Kidding, Marcoda! Really!) He and his mama are doing very well. I couldn’t believe how good Marcoda looked just hours after having a baby!

I’m sure she’ll have all the details on her blog soon, so I’ll just say he is 8 pounds, 12 ounces, has adorable chubby cheeks and perfect little hands, and makes cute snuffiling noises in his sleep like a puppy.

Marcoda is in the hospital right now having her baby, and I don’t think I could possibly be any more excited (well, perhaps if it were me, but that’s about the only circumstance I can think of). She’s having a baby!!!! And he’s going to be perfect, I’m sure of it. She’s been in the hospital for nearly four and a half hours and I’m getting quite impatient. (What? Labor takes awhile? Huh?)

Everyone in the office is buzzing today, asking each other if they’ve heard any baby news yet. Productivity is taking a bit of a nosedive, especially for me.

She’s not going to look like this much longer!

Excuse me, I twitted.
